Laser Hair Removal - All Skin Types
Here at Elk Grove Dermatology we offer Laser Hair Removal with the Gentle Max Pro.
Who is a candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal can work for all skin types and most hair colors. We are able to customize treatments for your specific hair color, hair type and skin color. The laser works by sending a concentrated beam into the skin to target melanin and destroy the hair bulb. For this reason we do not treat red, gray, white hair or blonde hair as the laser is unable to see them to destroy them.
Are laser hair removal treatments painful?
Candela's Laser Hair Removal treatments use a patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen in adjustable durations before the laser pulse. DCD helps ensure that the treatments are as comfortable as they are effective. With this technology we no longer use numbing cream with our treatments.
What precautions should I take throughout this process?
You will need to avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before a treatment, skin that is too tan will not be able to be treated for the safety of the patient. If you have waxed, threaded, tweezed or bleached the area you will need to wait 4 to 6 weeks before having Laser Hair Removal. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you are not eligable during that time. If you become pregnant during your treatment series you must inform your technician prior to treatment.
How long do Candela's Laser Hair Removal treatments take and how many treatments will I require?
Treatment times may vary depending on your specific needs. Hair growth is reduced after each treatment and the number of treatments required will be based on your hair color, type, body area and skin tone. The average number of treatments is 6 and we offer pricing for an individual treatments as well as packages of 6 for additional savings.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
The area you want to be treated should be shaved the day before your appointment. If that area has been previously waxed, threaded or tweezed you will need to wait 4 to 6 weeks before you have laser hair removal. This is to ensure the bulb of the hair is intact so that laser will be effective. If you have and razor burn or a rash in the area you are treating you are advised to reschedule your appointment so that we do not irritate the skin. Please make sure not to use any tanning creams or have sun exposure 2 weeks prior to your appointment. If you have any further questions on how to prepare for your treatment please call our office!
