Dr. Robert Polisky

Dr. Polisky is a Chicago native. He attended Mather High School, The University of Illinois and The Chicago Medical School. The doctor has had a lifetime interest in sports, working at Sox and Cubs parks through school. He lettered in baseball and tennis in high school and keeps active today by bike riding and kayaking on local lakes.

He became board certified in Internal Medicine as well as Dermatology completing training in both specialties at Vancouver General Hospital and Cook County Hospital. He was Chief Resident at Cook County Hospital where he developed a medical device to suppress formation of keloids.

The Practice was started in 1986. While the office was being constructed, Dr. Polisky saw his first patients at the outpatient department at Alexian Brothers Hospital. The practice and the hospital have grown remarkably. For example, before the highway 53 exit it was common to stroll across a near empty Biesterfield Road. Dr. Polisky was also fortunate to get some outstanding office staff who were originally patients!

The doctor wanted to establish and maintain a state of the art dermatology center but at the same time one that was friendly and personalized. The top notch staff helped put it all together with such innovations as a down-home waiting area with tasty snacks for patients who undergo in office skin cancer removals. The staff decorated the office, set up a high tech cosmetic consult room and did countless things to make the practice one of a kind.

Achievements and Recognitions

For his part Dr. Polisky put a strong emphasis on continued medical education and development. The doctor authored numerous articles on dermatology which were published in the Alexian Hospital Medical Review. He was given numerous tumor presentations as well as lecturing the departments of Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Podiatry about care, recognition, and treatment of dermatologic disorders. In addition, the doctor worked with department of Public Health at University of Illinois on contact dermatitis and industrial causes of skin problems. He presented a talk on plant dermatitis call "Ferocious Flowers".

Dr. Polisky participates in public outreach programs with Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Student of Chicago Medical School and the Physician Assistant program of Midwest University to come to the office for a rigorous and structured dermatology rotation of 4 week duration's. The rotation has received excellent reviews by the students.

In research Dr. Polisky was awarded a grant from the Chicago Medical Society of which he has been a regular member. He studied bleeding in surgery and found a novel way to reduce pain and bleeding by buffering local anesthesia. In addition, he was invited to present a rare case of Parry Romberg symdrome at the Israel Dermatologic Society. The office has been used to conduct a research study on scalp foam products which treat various skin conditions.


Doctor P's Approach

Dr. Polisky has worked hard to develop a style of practice with a strong ethical foundation. He has very little contact with the drug industry and the lion share of his scripts are for low cost generic medications. He tries to use high tech modalities where indicated but also use natures' storehouse of medicines when applicable.

He has been quoted by the New York Times, The Daily Herald, Oprah, and the The Chicago Tribune emphasizing the role of natural skin care treatments.

The approach to the patient is a major focus of Dr. Polisky. He works to establish a rapport with patients and develop a common idea of what needs to be accomplished.

Dr. Polisky finds time for daily study outside the realm of medicine and he enjoys spending time with his daughters and his wife Dr. Ellen. The family enjoys learning languages, singing, studying ancient Jewish texts and traveling.
